zephyr method is a duo consisting of dylan adelaide and penelope parfait. We make various kinds of music, but primarily focus on trip hop, with inspiration deriving from Wow & Flutter, Massive Attack, and a general focus on moods and atmospheres.
zephyr method was created in early 2018 by dylan adelaide (me) and was primarily a solo project with members coming and going over the years. zephyr method was created with the intention to nail down the feeling of somewhere that's never existed, but feels so tangible. The first early projects (check the releases page for info) were primarily made trying to nail down this feeling and sound, but success didn't really come until 2020 with the production and release of demo tape 1, which was the first seed of this feeling. Subsequent early private releases continued to toy around with different feelings and concepts, each trying to go back to that feeling of somewhere that doesn't exist. Most of these were made when I was just a young teenager. Most projects during this time were shared only privately among friends or small online groups, and didn't gain much traction at all.
This progressed for about a year and a half, until in late 2021 due to interpersonal reasons, I essentially went on a hiatus and "vanished". During this time I explored various other genres under a range of pseudonyms ranging from indie, to rock, to metal, to EDM, noise, ambient, several other genres, and then eventually back to indie. Over the course of about 3 and a half years my production had improved a thousand-fold, alongside with my maturity, experiences, and look on the world. In those 3 years I had done shrooms for the first time, admittedly became a stoner, and had tenfold the experiences and feelings to build off than I did when I first started zephyr method. Over that time I had also become amazingly close friends with penelope parfait - who is now the second member of zephyr method, making us a duo.
In 2024 I decided that I needed to do a new genre. Figuring how it had been 3 years since I had last visited zephyr method, I wondered what I could bring to the table with my newfound production abilities, combined with Penelope's. We decided it would be a fun challenge to make some new zephyr method content, so together we began work on vectorhead, the first zephyr method project in 3 years.
Q: why keep the early projects unreleased? Why not distribute them?
A: frankly, because they're not all exactly what I want zephyr method to be nowadays. in terms of production quality they're also pretty frequently lacking, which I suppose should be expected for a teenager's music.
Q: are the unreleased projects completely inaccessible?
A: i'm sure if you did some searching you would be able to find leaks somewhere online. for example, [zephyr method] already leaked onto Soulseek and a cassette rip of demo tape 1 is available on archive.org, however, if you really want the early projects, you can send me an email at zephyrmethod086@gmail.com requesting what project or song you would like and I might be able to get it back to you.
Q: will there be any physical releases of your projects?
A: more than likely yes.
